How To Find A Good Used Car

The prices for new cars have gone up considerably to the point where many people are buying used cars instead. And of course who can blame them, with a new car running over $20,000 and the fact that you can get a good quality used car for $7,000 or less. With the savings you get with a used car, it boggles the mind that people still buy new cars. In this article we are going to give you a few tips so you can be sure that you are getting a good quality used car when shopping.

Of course the first thing you want to look for is any rust on the exterior of the vehicle. Be sure to look for rust that could be hidden under the paint job. The best way to tell if there is rust under the paint is to look at the car's finish. If you see bubbling on the paint, then it's probably rust underneath ready to pop through. Even if you see just a little rust, move on to the next car since it will probably get worse in a few years.

The next area of the car you need to look at for rust is the trunk. This is something that no one ever looks at. Any little rust in the trunk will spread to the rest of the car. The rust in the trunk could also create holes resulting in water leaking into the car and ruining anything that's in there.

The next step is to check the interior of the car. If the inside of the car is clean then you know the previous owner really took good care of the car. If there are stains and serious wear and tear, then you know that the prior owner did not properly maintain the car.

Now while you are inside the car check all the controls, this includes windows, door locks, heater and everything else the car has. The last thing you want to do is to buy a car in the summer and then find out the heater doesn't work when winter hits.

The next thing to check is to see if there are any uneven wear on the tire treads. If you see that the tread on one side of the car has less wear than the other side, then there could be some issues with the car. It may just need an alignment, but then again it could be an issue that could run thousands to fix. If you find that there is any type of uneven wear on the tread, don't give it a second thought, move on to the next car.

And lastly it is time to take the car for a test drive. What you want to do is to be sure the car's handling on turns works properly and the brakes are solid. When you take the car for a drive, be sure you don't have any weird noises or other issues.
