Instructor Courses - Training The Trainer

Just like a dancer, if you are looking for a way to get into instructor training courses, you are going to discover that there is quite a bit of competition in this line of work. When you take it to a professional level it's going to be evident that only the best are going to be able to find work. But, there are different ways in which a dance teacher can go and some of those ways will let them get a job more easily.

Even before you enroll somewhere, you need to make sure that you have been trained well in the dance. You should have a pretty strong background when it comes to dance. Your experience, how much you have behind you and the quality is going to influence the level of dance you can accomplish and your ability to teach others how to dance.

More than likely, if you are wanting to study to become a dance instructor you are going to want to stick with the dancing style that you are most comfortable with and the best at. Even though you might think you already have enough training for your style of dance you really should consider taking some refresher courses before you take any instructor training.

There are some universities as well as 4 year colleges that do offer Bachelor's as well as Master's in different dance styles. You will need to figure out where you want to go and what program you want to enroll in. Make sure that it's one that will best suit your personal needs. You will also need to fill in with classes that will also help you with your classroom skills as well.

Qualities that a dance instructor should, should be good physical shape, enthusiasm for teaching dance, lots of ambition and the ability to communicate very well with others. A really good instructor is going to have some strong time management skills as well, creativity, be patient, have grace when dancing, have rhythm and must have a deep appreciation for music and the joy of being able to share their skills with students.

Be prepared as a teacher to be found teaching in different places at times and teaching only certain age groups. You will also be expected to teach specialized styles of dancing, know how to market the dance classes, be good at choreographing dances and creating classroom curriculum for students.

Planning and managing dance recitals will be another requirement and teaching the students dance techniques and different styles of rhythm. A teacher will also need to show students the importance of the position of their bodies in order to avoid any kind of injury. If you should happen to end up having your own school, you will also need to know how to do administrative work, how to hire as well as supervise others.
